Analysis of Symptoms of Patients with Valley Fever

Why is this study being done?

This study is being done to describe the symptoms and impact of Valley Fever.

Who is eligible to participate?

-You are experiencing at least two symptoms that are characteristic of Valley Fever -You have been diagnosed with Valley Fever based on a positive culture or histology -You have been diagnosed with Valley Fever based on typical symptoms, radiographs, and positive serology -You have not been hospitalized because of your Valley Fever -You are not pregnant and do not plan to become pregnant -You are not taking medications for immunosuppression

What is involved?

You will be cared for like every other patient with Valley Fever at Mayo Clinic. You will be seen by a physician four times in six months, at which time routine laboratory studies will be collected and chest x-rays will be done.

You will also be asked to complete telephone surveys. At the beginning of the study, you will be contacted every week by the study coordinator to obtain current symptoms and to answer questions about fatigue and whether or not school or work was missed. Every four weeks, the survey will ask about the impact of Valley Fever on daily activities. After a 50% decrease in symptoms from the beginning of the study, the telephone calls will be less often, until the calls are once a month.

How long is the study?

You will be in this study for six months.
