Study of Celebrex and Selenium to Decrease the Risk of Developing Recurrent Colon Polyps

Why is this study being done?

The Division of Gastroenterology is currently recruiting participants between the ages of 40 and 80 in a research study to determine whether treatment with celecoxib (Celebrex), or selenium, or the combination of celecoxib and selenium can decrease the risk of developing recurrent polyps. Eligible particpants must have had a colonoscopy where an adenomatous(precancerous)polyp was found and removed.

Who is Eligible to Participate in the Study?

Recent Colonoscopy within 5 months and removal of at least one adenomatous polyp greater than or equal to 3mm

40

Maximum Age:

80

What is Involved With this Study?

Clinic visits to monitor health and safety, complete questionnaires, and receive study medication.
Blood draws each year to monitor health and safety.
Results from participants most recent colonoscopy and endpoint colonoscopy to understand the effects of celecoxib and/or selenium on polyp recurrence.

How long will the Study run?

Participants will be enrolled in this study for approximately 3 to 5 years.
