Why is this study being done?

This study is being done to look for molecular markers present in blood to distinguish benign (non-cancerous) ovarian tumors from ovarian cancer.

Who is Eligible to Participate in the Study?

  • Age 35 and older.
  • Scheduled for surgery at Mayo Clinic Rochester for removal of a pelvic mass.
  • Any pelvic mass, regardless of how suspicious or benign it appears will qualify for this project.
  • No previous history of ovarian or primary peritoneal cancer.

Further eligibility criteria will be discussed with you.

What will happen in the study?

  • A blood sample will be taken before your planned surgery.
  • We will ask you a short series of questions about medications you are taking and your medical history.
