Why is this study being done?

The purpose of the study is to compare any inherited or genetic characteristics using blood or tissue specimens collected from individuals who have been diagnosed with lung cancer with the blood or tissue of their family members. The research study is funded by the National Cancer Institute and is part of a national research study being conducted by the Genetic Epidemiology of Lung Cancer Consortium (GELCC).

Who is Eligible to Participate in the Study?

Male and female volunteers, who have been diagnosed with lung cancer, or are members of families in which two or more members have had lung cancer.

Minimum Age:

18

Maximum Age:

100

What is Involved With this Study?

Study Participants do not need to come to Mayo Clinic to participate.

As a study participant you will:

  • Complete a study survey regarding your medical and family history.

  • At your convenience, have a blood sample drawn at your local doctor's office with the blood kit that we will provide. You will donate a small amount of blood (approx. 5 tablespoons). The study will cover the cost of the blood draw.

  • If you have had previous cancers or lung conditions, we would ask for your permission to obtain your medical records. We would ask that you sign an 'Authorization to Release Medical Records' form (which allows us to look at your medical records and request a small sample of any remaining tissue that may have been taken as part of your regular medical care). There will be no cost to you.

How long will the Study run?

You will be involved in the study for/until the study has reached its completion.
