This study is being done to test the utility of physical activity monitoring instruments and breath testing in people with Anorexia Nervosa. The instrument is a lycra garment which has sensors attached to measure your motion.
Patients between the ages of 18 and 55 with Anorexia Nervosa may be eligible to participate in this research study.

The physical activity monitoring system is a suit made of lycra which has sensors attached to it. It is similar to suits worn by bicyclists and is firm fitting but comfortable and is not restrictive. The suit will be worn over a pair of scrubs. You will also have your breath sampled to determine your energy expenditure. This is done while you are lying down by placing a see-through plastic hood with air holes over your head. You will be able to breathe fresh air through this hood. The procedure is painless and harmless. This same procedure of breath testing will also take place while you are sitting, standing and walking on a treadmill at varying speeds. This is not an invasive study.
You will be involved in this study for a single 4 hour period.
If you are interested in participating in this study or would like further information, please contact Rashmi Shirbhate at (507) 266-9658.
