Examination of the Impact of Immunosuppression on Antibody Production in Kidney Transplant Recipients

IRB Number:

374-05

Trial Status:

Open for Enrollment

Phase: I

Why is this study being done?

This study is being done to collect blood and bone marrow samples for biologic studies of antibody producing cells. Donor specific antibody can cause damage to kidneys after they are transplanted. The study will look at the impact of immunosuppression on antibody production by these cells.

Who is Eligible to Participate in the Study?

Participants must be between the ages of 18 to 70 and undergoing a kidney transplant may be eligible to participate in this research study.

Minimum Age:

18

Maximum Age:

70

What is Involved With this Study?

Samples will be taken and compared from two different groups of kidney transplant recipients. The non-sensitized kidney transplant recipients will have blood drawn at the same time blood is collected for routine tests. Bone marrow will also be collected prior to desensitization therapy and also at the time of transplant.

During the first bone marrow collection, participants may choose to have intravenous sedation or local anesthesia. Collection of bone marrow at the time of transplant will take place after genereal anesthesia. Collection of bone marrow at the time of transplant will take place after general anesthesia has been given.

How long will the Study run?

Participants will be involved in this study until blood and bone marrow samples are received, up until the time of transplant.
